Telenovelas in the Park

Telenovelas in the Park was created in 2015. This project is a grassroots theater troupe that uses the traditional telenovela model to present key messages about the California drought, water conservation, and the impacts of plastics pollution. It is based on our Agua is Vida/Water is Life Campaign in an effort to educate and inform families about the seriousness of the drought, the importance of water conservation as well as other ways to Heal and Care for La Madre Tierra (Mother Earth).

Through exaggerated acting, family-friendly humor, and performances in Spanglish, Telenovelas showcase a traditional “familia” in Los Angeles working hard to achieve the American dream while striving to care for La Madre Tierra. This multi-generational, culturally relevant, educational tool teaches the community about important issues while encouraging a shift towards a healthier and more wholesome lifestyle.

Because of Covid, Telenovelas in the Park went virtual. We were able to create two telenovelas virtually.
